As The Crow Flies - Launch Details
Gatehouse Press is proud to announce the successful launch of their latest publication; 'As The Crow Flies' by Jo Kjaer.
The Gatehouse team were delighted at the response received by Kjaer from the patrons of Caf? Writers at Jurnet's Bar on May 12th, as she read selected poems from her new collection. Photos will be online shortly.
The book was launched at the Poetry-next-the-Sea Festival at Wells over the weekend of the 2-4th May, with author Jo Kjaer among the featured poets at the '5 East Anglian Voices' poetry brunch event at The Maltings on Sunday 4th May. More details can be found by visiting the Poetry-next-the-Sea website here.
'As The Crow Flies' is the product of the first Caf? Writers Norfolk Commission. The Commission is a new annual poetry competition open to recent graduates from a creative writing based course at Norwich School of Art and Design and UEA. The Norfolk Commission is generously supported by patrons Kate and Dominic Christian, who will put forth an annual sum of £3,500 to fund the publication of the winning collection, as well as promotional material and prize money.
The judges this year were Kate Christian, Chris Gribble (Director of the New Writing Partnership), Caroline Gilfillan (Chair of Poetry-next-the-Sea) and Bloodaxe poet Helen Ivory. They were particularly impressed by Kjaer's decision to "give each poem an OS reference, anchoring it to the particular place that inspired it", as well as liking the fact that "her writing voice has a sense of belonging; a spiritual connection with the landscape".
'As The Crow Flies' will be available shortly from the Gatehouse Press shop, priced at £5.00 including postage and packing.
